Broadcast Journalism
Classes will focus on introducing fundamental media literacy, writing for the ear (clear, concise, conversational), basic video production (camera, audio, editing), and ethical reporting. Students create school newscasts, learning roles such as anchor, reporter, camera operator, and producer while developing public speaking skills and digital storytelling abilities.
Curriculum

- Broadcast Writing (The “6 Cs”): Writing that is clear, concise, conversational, complete, current, and correct. Key techniques include using the active voice and writing for the ear.
- Media Literacy & Ethics:Â Identifying bias, distinguishing news from opinion, understanding fake news, and learning copyright laws.
- Journalism Principles: Understanding the 5 W’s (Who, What, When, Where, Why), identifying newsworthiness, and conducting effective interviews.
- Production Skills:
- Camera/Technical: Operating video cameras, using tripods, and understanding basic lighting.
- Audio/Editing: Recording clear audio and using editing software (e.g., Premiere Pro or iPad apps).
- Studio Roles: Acting as on-air anchors, reporters, directors, teleprompter operators, and floor managers.
