Class Description

In this class, students are introduced to more complex grammatical concepts and structures compared to earlier grades. The focus is often on reinforcing the fundamentals of grammar while also expanding their knowledge to include more advanced topics. Here’s what you might expect to see:

  • Parts of Speech: Students delve deeper into the various parts of speech such as nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, and interjections. They learn to identify and use them correctly in sentences.
  • Sentence Structure: They learn about the structure of sentences, including subjects, predicates, clauses, and phrases. They start to recognize different types of sentences such as declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory.
  • Grammar Rules and Mechanics: Students learn more intricate grammar rules such as subject-verb agreement, tense consistency, and the proper use of punctuation marks including commas, apostrophes, quotation marks, colons, and semicolons.
  • Parts of a Sentence: They study the components of a sentence in greater detail, including subjects, predicates, objects (direct and indirect), modifiers, and complements.
  • Writing Skills: Grammar is often integrated with writing exercises. Students practice applying their grammar knowledge to improve their writing skills, focusing on clarity, coherence, and organization of ideas.
  • Grammar Games and Activities: To make learning fun and engaging, teachers might incorporate grammar games, puzzles, and interactive activities into the lessons to reinforce concepts and promote active participation.
  • Grammar Exercises: Students work on various grammar exercises such as fill-in-the-blank sentences, correcting grammatical errors, and analyzing sentences to identify parts of speech and sentence structures.

Our fun student-facing videos are another fantastic way to deliver great grammar knowledge! Students’ understanding quickly and effectively with simple assessments. Students will learn grammar knowledge with Application to Writing Checklists – encouraging them to employ particular skills as they write. Along with tips on how to modify existing writing rubrics to assess specific grammar skills, my class helps students to seamlessly integrate grammar with writing.
