2024 Spring Online Contest Math Classes Enrolling Now!

Our contest math classes span the academic year, consisting of two semesters (Fall and Spring). Each week, students attend two-hour lecture sessions.

Additionally, we offer weekly homework TA sessions for classes CM101 through CM401. For CM500 – CM602, weekly lectures will be conducted, accompanied by comprehensive written and video solutions for all homework problems.

20% discount on one school math class if a student is also enrolled in a Contest Math class (email us after you sign up and we will manually add the discount)

Why should we take contest math and school math classes together?

Given that our contest math classes encompass challenging material, students may find it difficult to stay abreast of the curriculum at times. Therefore, we advise our students to familiarize themselves with the fundamentals (school math) in advance. This proactive approach facilitates smoother comprehension and application of the more intricate concepts presented in our contest math classes.

  • For students taking CM101/200, they can also take Number Sense at the same time.
  • For students taking CM201, they can also take Algebra 1 at the same time.
  • For students taking CM301, they can also take Geometry at the same time.
  • For students taking CM401, they can also take Algebra 2 at the same time.

Fall/Spring Contest Math Classes: Approval is required. Once you add the class to your cart, you will be placed on the waiting list until it is reviewed by our staff, usually within one business day. Following approval, you will receive an invoice. If further information is required or if the item is not approved, we will contact you via email.

We offer free qualifying tests for CM101-CM401. For higher level classes, we use AMC/AIME score to decide the placement.

CM100-201: If your grade falls within the recommended range, you are exempt from the qualifying test. Otherwise, you must take the qualifying test unless you have successfully completed two semesters of the preceding course. For instance, if you’ve completed both the fall and spring semesters of CM101A and CM101B respectively, you are eligible to enroll in CM200 without the need for a qualifying test, regardless of your grade level.

CM301-CM701
Official scores from the AMC8/10/AIME exams are mandatory. In the absence of official scores, new students who lack the necessary testing scores may take the CM301 and CM401 tests instead.

Not to brag, but we are proud to announce that the top 10 spots in Houston MATHCOUNTS chapter students were students at Momentum Learning. We’ve also had 8 of our student’s secure spots in the competitive Math Olympiad Program (MOP). We applaud our 240+ students who have qualified for AIME and 60+ students who have qualified for USA(J)MO. We also congratulate our teams for winning ARML, the February HMMT, CMIMC, MATHCOUNTS, and PUMaC.

Questions? We Are Here to Help.

Easy answers to some common questions.

Our structured curriculum is focused on teaching students and improving their problem-solving skills. The main goal is not to prepare for any specific competition, though mastering the knowledge will help students do well in math contests. Students should take classes based on their current level, rather than where they want to be. You need to learn how to walk before you can run, regardless of how old you are.

CM200 focuses on basic pre-algebra knowledge and CM201 covers the material in more depth (harder contest math questions). We may use easier AMC8 and MATHCOUNTS questions in CM200 and harder ones in CM201.

In this case, we would recommend your child take CM200 first. CM200 will help bridge the knowledge from elementary school math to middle school Pre-Algebra. Many important Pre-Algebra topics will be covered in CM200, such as Ratios and Rates, Percents, Prime Factorization, etc. Without a solid foundation, it will be difficult for students to adequately learn the concepts covered in CM201.

Yes, in addition to Middle School Pre-Algebra, basic knowledge about Geometry, Combinatorics, and Number Theory will be covered as well.

If your AIME score is 5-6, we would advise you to take CM501 which covers medium difficulty AIME-level content. CM601/602 mostly covers problems similar to the last 6 questions on AIME. Students will find the class very challenging (and maybe even frustrating) if they don’t have the proper foundation.

The goals and the content covered in these two classes (CM601 vs CM701) are completely different. CM601/602 focus on computational math and will help students improve their AIME scores. CM701/702 are proof-based classes that will help students improve their performance on contests such as USA(J)MO (and it will indirectly help improve their AIME scores). For students who are not certain if they will qualify for USA(J)MO next year, we encourage them to improve their AIME score first by taking CM601/602. For those who really want to improve both, they can take CM601/602 and CM701/702 simultaneously.

The focus of CM201A (fall) is on Pre-Algebra (at the contest level), Numbery Theory, and some Combinatorics. The focus of CM201B (spring) is on Geometry and Combinatorics. We go beyond the basic school curriculum. We use more difficult problems to help students understand concepts and teach them how to apply techniques.

Most 6th graders should probably take CM201. However, if you have mastered middle school Pre-Algebra, you may consider CM301.We also recommend you take our free qualifying test to determine the right class.

If the student is not in grade 7 or higher, you will not see this class listed after you log into the student’s profile. Very few 6th graders will be approved to take this class. You must send an email to info@momentumlearning.org to get approval and our staff will manually add the class for you.

Yes, topics covered in this class will help students solve medium level (15-22) AMC10 questions and easier AIME questions. Some CM401 students score 120-130 on AMC10 after completing the class.

Yes. If the student qualifies for AIME, he/she should take CM501.

No, this class will not be easy for you. In this class, we cover techniques used to solve medium to hard AMC10/12 problems and medium-level AIME questions (5-8).
